Steel offers the lowest price tag compared to other materials, but it also offers the most diversity in terms of colour and style. Steel is malleable which allows towel rails to be efficient because they can be physically designed to better pass heat from the water inside to the space around them (this is a radiator's job after all, despite some thinking that its job is to “store” heat). The heat output is also good, the proof is in the pudding with this one - would steel be the most common radiator material if the heat output was rubbish? Steel is a highly durable material which is important as towel rails are going to be the victims of some knocks and bangs over time and you want them to withstand that.
StyleThe straight ladder towel rail has been a firm favourite for many years in the bathroom radiator world. The ladder name signifies the run of horizontal tubes connected by two vertical tubes (these are called collectors). “Straight” – sometimes known as flat, simply means that the horizontals bars run straight across between collectors and when looking at the towel rail from the side, it is completely flat. So, they are great for compact bathrooms where every millimetre counts
ColourAnthracite is a high-end variety of coal noted for the purity of its carbon and the dark grey smoke it emits when burning. It’s also one of our customers’ most popular picks for a modern-looking towel rail that looks as good as it functions. The smoky matt finish you achieve with this colour is quite unlike any other and produces a stylish effect with even the most minimalist design. As we become more conscious of our surroundings, tastes shift from the functional and the merely decorative to something combining qualities of both, and anthracite towel rails certainly tick all of the boxes.
Heat SourceThis central heating/hot water towel rail is one that is plumbed into your homes central heating system. Whether you have a Combi boiler, gravity fed (conventional) system or a system with a cylinder, you can install this heated towel rail.
AccessoriesThis towel rail has G1/2” connections at the base of either side of the towel rail and so the valves required will depend on your pipework (which is why they aren’t provided with the towel rail):
- For pipework coming from the wall to the bottom of the rail, use angled or corner valves (angled, for a valve head that sticks out into the room and corner for a valve head that’s tucked under the rail).
- For pipework coming from the floor and up to the bottom of the rail, use straight valves.
There are a few different types of valves available for you to choose from: Manual Valves provide easy on/off control – simply turn the valve by hand to allow the water from your central heating to pass through into the radiator or towel rail, just like a tap! These are commonly used with towel rails because of their ease, but that doesn’t mean you have to choose manual – unless your main boiler thermostat is located in your bathroom, which is unlikely. Thermostatic Valves provide multi temperature control of the radiators in your home – saving energy and money! These valves have sensor mechanisms inside that shut off the flow of hot water to the radiator when the room temperature reached the desired level!
All of our towel rails are supplied with everything required to hang the rail on the wall (brackets & masonry fixings) as well as a chrome bleed valve and blanking plug for the top of the rail. For ultimate style we recommend you also purchase some colour matching pipe covers, either match the colour to the towel rail or the valves!
Delta (Δ) Ratings Explained
What is a Delta (Δ) Rating?
When discussing heat outputs, the Delta rating is the difference between the temperature of the water inside the heating system and the desired temperature of the room.
What does the value represent?
In simple terms, this value is about heat loss. Heating a room only works, if the radiator output exceeds the heat loss of the room.
We use this calculation to make it easy to choose a radiator that will have a heat output that exceeds the heat loss of the room when connected to your heating system type.
If you don't know the room heat loss, you can use our calculator to find out.
What Delta Rating should I use?
- Δ50 = Gas boilers before 2005 / Oil boilers before 2007.
- Δ40 = Gas boilers after 2005 / Oil boilers after 2007.
- Δ30 = Low temperature systems e.g heat pumps.
Watts & BTUs (British Thermal Units) Explained
What is a Watt?
Watts are our main unit of energy/power in the UK, commonly associated with lightbulbs and Home Energy performance certificates (EPCs).
What is a BTU?
BTUs are the unit of measurement used to portray a radiators heat output and a rooms heating requirement. 1 Watt is equal to 3.41 BTUs.
Why are they important?
We buy radiators to heat our homes, right? So, we need a way of knowing if a radiator is powerful enough to heat the room that we are shopping for - Watts and BTUs provide us with a value that makes its easier to compare radiators and ultimately choose the right one for our heating requirement.
Need help figuring out how much heat your room needs?
Our fast and easy-to-use BTU calculator can help you:
- Work out a heating requirement value (in BTUs & Watts) for your room
- Show you in-stock radiator recommendations that can fulfil this heat requirement

No issues with purchasing this item, delivered promptly, as described. Now installed and working, obviously have no idea of longevity, but so far so good, plus quite a bit cheaper than other places. Installed a Wifi smart switch in the circuit, which means I can now control the on/off times, so not on permanently, using the app or Alexa routines.
Good quality product and easy to install .Quick and easy to order, received in 2 days. Excellent service.
Only fitted yesterday and found an immediate increase in heat output compared to the chrome rail that was replaced of same physical size and with the addition of the electric heater makes it much more flexible as we don’t put the heating on in the evenings as we have a log burner so we can just heat the bathroom and dry the towels.
Looks really nice and getting very hot
Looks great and is a excellent replacement for the radiator in the bathroom
Lovely looking radiator. Managed to find a direct replacement from my old one so I didn't have to alter the pipe work.
I've had it a few months to give it a fair review. I can't fault it, it's black and it hasn't peeled or flaked, it still looks great. I recommend it.
Very good product and service.
Replaced a small radiator in my bathroom with this attractive towel rail. Used the BTU calculator to ensure I had the right size. Easy to install and working very well. My bathroom is now much warmer and my towels are snug and ready as I get out of the shower. Would recommend this company and product.
Can’t fault the towel rail works a treat. If I had to buy it again I would’ve bought one with a thermostatic valve on it. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because the packaging was delivered wet at one end and smelling very musty, which is left my garage smelling awful. I did report it as damaged on arrival.
The service, communication and delivery of the towel rail were exemplary. Unfortunately I can’t comment on its effectiveness as I cannot get a plumber to fit the thing for love nor money!!! They all seem disinterested and most don’t even reply to left messages so… I suppose the bottom line is don’t buy unless you have a plumber - on tap!🤪
Lovely quality radiator looks exactly like the picture.
Nice radiator- was worried about how good a price it was since it included p&p but it was a good heavy radiator and seemed well made - easy to fit as it was a direct replacement
Love it arrived within 36 hrs of ordering. Great service great product.
Nice stylish towel radiator that is nice and wide, and not too tall.
Great quality and looks good...
Excellent service and product at a fantastic price
Matches superbly with our bathroom set. Good heat for drying towels & warming bathroom
Superb radiator,and very warm.
Love the style, colour and quality. Really holds the heat after boiler switches off. Love this product.
Once again another excellent product from UK Radiators ... I don’t usually do that many reviews but have made this company an exception as high standard products with a very reasonable price tag !!!!
Great quality and a great product, my second one from this range!
Great product, really good quality and at a fantastic price compared to some other suppliers of similar radiator styles.
Excellent quality and looks great
