      Bathroom Radiators FAQs

That depends. Both radiators and towel rails provide heat. In general, we always recommend towel rails for drying towels over radiators.

How well your towel radiator heats your bathroom will depend on the type of heated towel rail you choose. An electric-only towel rail's primary function is to dry and warm towels. That said, in some cases, an electric towel rail will provide a higher heat output than one that’s part of a central heating system. In this scenario, an electric towel rail may be the best option for heating your bathroom as well as drying and warming towels.

A central heating towel radiator will heat the room, provided that the BTU output of the rail meets the room's BTU requirement.

You can use an electric towel rail all year round. Whether or not it’s able to heat the space will depend on its output and the space’s requirements.

Dual fuel towel rails can be switched between central heating and electric. With these types, you can use the electric in summer and the central heating in winter.

For some bathrooms, a heated towel radiator alone won't be enough to heat the whole room. In these cases, we recommend using a heated towel radiator in conjunction with a standard radiator.

The best type of radiator for you will depend on the heating system you have installed. If you have a conventional hot-water system, we recommend a dual-fuel radiator. They connect to your central heating and electricity, so you can use them even when your heating is turned off.

At UK Radiators, we offer a range of radiator types and towel rail styles to keep your towels toasty and also fit nicely into your space.

All our radiators come with handy installation guides to make fitting your new bathroom radiator yourself as easy as possible. However, for peace of mind, you may wish to contact a professional plumber to fit your radiator.

To ensure you’re purchasing the right radiator for your space, you need to know the rate of heat loss (this is worked out by performing a heat loss calculation). You will then need to ensure that the BTU (British Thermal Units) output or the output in Watts of the radiator is greater than the heat loss of the space. Purchasing a correctly sized radiator will keep your bathroom warm effectively.

Not sure where to start? Don't worry about it – we've got you. Check out our BTU calculator to find the BTU output you need for your home. Our calculator works out how much heat you need to effectively heat and maintain the temperature in a room.

If you choose a radiator with a lower output than the BTU requirement of your room, you run the risk of a cold bathroom and wasted energy.

Use our simple calculator to find your BTU. Shop for the correct towel rail. Contact us if you need additional advice.

If your radiator is connected to a central heating system, it will turn on when your heating does. With electric heated towel rails, you can turn them off and on as and when you need to.

Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing the right towel radiator for your bathroom:

      • Decide What You Need it For – Do you want your towel rail to only give you toasty towels or heat your whole bathroom? If you have a larger bathroom, we recommend purchasing a separate radiator to heat your space. For smaller or en-suit bathrooms, a good towel rail can do the job on its own.
      • Keep Your Heating System in Mind – Do you want a towel radiator you can hook up to your central heating system, or one you can switch off and on independently? If you’re looking for all-year-round use, an electric towel rail or dual fuel option is your best bet.
      • Material and Finish – Stainless steel is a classic option for towel rail radiators, but we also offer heated towel rails and bathroom radiators in a range of other finishes and colours to suit your bathroom.
