Yes, you can paint a radiator any colour you wish. Many people choose to paint their radiator to refresh the look of an old model or match the decor of their home. However, painting a radiator isn’t as simple as it might seem. There’s a lot of prep required, including:

• Cleaning - Wipe down the radiator with a damp cloth and soapy water to get rid of any dirt and debris.
• Stripping - Use a paint stripper to remove any existing paint layers on your radiator. Be careful not to damage the existing structure of the radiator.
• Sanding - Sand down the radiator to get rid of any bumps and make the surface smooth.
• Priming - This will protect the structure of your radiator and help you apply the paint in the most effective way.

Surface treatments do have an effect on heat output due to their different levels of emissivity. When it comes to cleaning a gold radiator, you first want to ensure you’ve switched off the heating and let the radiator cool down. Then you can use a damp (not soaking!) soft cloth to get rid of any dust or dirt that might be dimming its gold sheen.
