Bathroom Radiators FAQs

The type of heating system you have installed will determine which towel rail is right for your boiler.

If you have a conventional hot water heating system, choose a dual fuel rail for the most efficient solution. They connect to your central heating and electricity, so you can use them even when your heating is turned off.

Alternatively, electric-only bathroom radiators heat independently and are easy to install.

If you’ve chosen a style and size, it’s important to know what the BTU (British Thermal Unit) output is for your home.

Dont worry, it’s not difficul to workout when you use our BTU calculator! This metric works out how much heat is required to effectively heat and maintain the temperature in a room. If you choose a radiator with a lower output than the BTU of your room, you run the risk of sky-high energy bills.

Use our simple calculator to find your BTU to help you shop for the correct towel rail. Contact us for hep if you need additional advice.

It depends on the type of heated towel rail you choose. An electric-only towel rail's primary function is to dry and warm towels. Whilst they do provide some heat, their BTU output doesn’t match that of a conventional radiator.

A central heating towel radiator will dry towels and provide some heat to the room providing that the BTU output of the rail meets the rooms BTU requirement. For some bathrooms, a heated towel radiator alone won't be enough to heat the whole room. In these cases, we recommend using a heated towel radiator in conjunction with a standard radiator.

If you choose a central heating towel rail, they will generally turn on when the heating is switched on. These speciality radiators don’t typically cost a lot to run, but the answer depends on personal preference and the type of unit you have.

An electric towel rail can be switched on (or programmed, depending on the model) and off as and when you need it.

A dual fuel towel rail can be used as a central heating towel rail in the colder months, and an electric towel rail in the summer.
